All Original And Unrestored IWC Calibre 89 Mens Watch c1950
Outstanding all original and unrestored International Watch Company Calibre 89 gents wristwatch.
The attention to detail is whats make these IWC watches stand out from other manufacturers.
This the legendary calibre 89 movement, with Jewels set into gold chatons, Geneva stripe plates with hand beveled edges and seconds friction adjust. Widely regarded as the finest movement ever made and known as the watchmakers watch, as you can see it is in fabulous condition having just been fully serviced.
The minute markers are small polished silver plated circles that are individually machined into the surface of the dial, everyone else like Rolex and Omega just used printed minute markers.
The seconds hand is domed along its whole length meaning that from any angle the light reflects along its centre line, these are very difficult to make, everyone else just used standard flat topped seconds hands
The dial is totally original and unrestored which is quite remarkable, IWC dials are generally not great survivors and tended to deteriorate more that other brands so to find a 75 year old original IWC dial in this condition is very rare.
The hands are original as is the fish symbol winding crown, the serrations are still crisp and sharp.
It has the very desireable water resistant stainless steel case which has had no restoration or polishing the only thing we have done is to give it a thorough ultrasonic clean.
The diameter of the case is 34mm without the winding crown.
As you would expect the watch is fully marked on the dial, movement and case.
IWC are one of the most exclusive watchmakers in the world and this watch certainly has that understated elegance that whispers class indeed this is one of the best all original examples we have ever had, a rare find indeed.
