Romantic Platinum and Diamond Ladies Art Deco Cocktail Watch by Vertex c1938
This is a very fine and beautiful example of a ladies wristwatch made by the world renowned premier Swiss maker Vertex, widely regarded as the top maker of platinum and diamond watches.
It has a decorated and chased solid platinum case surrounded by a row of diamonds and then more diamonds to the shoulders, and the small diamond collars fitted to the strap it has a total diamond weight of approximately 1.5ct of diamonds. The watch is 20mm in diameter without the crown, the diamond section with shoulders measures 35mm long.
The traditional double strand black silk strap has original solid 9ct white gold clasps which compliments the watch beautifully. It has a three position safety clasp for added security.
As you would expect from Vertex the diamonds are bright, crisp and evenly matched.
It is quite stunning with a white dial. A new facet cut glass has been fitted and the watch and clasp professionally cleaned and polished so it is absolutely pristine.
There are some intials to the back presumably the lady who was first given this watch in 1938
There is also a secret inscription around the inner rim of the case that only the original owner and the watch maker would know about , it reads " To Jean from Jim with love xmas 1938" it can only be seen when the watch is opened.
The 15 jewel movement is an absolute gem, sparkling clean and in like new condition, this is a movement from the golden age of Swiss watchmaking.
It is fully marked on the case as platinum and the clasp is hallmarked 9ct gold.
It also comes with its original presentation box.
Vertex are one of the most exclusive makers in the world and this watch certainly has that understated elegance which resonates class and very much of the Art Deco era in design, one of the best we have seen.
The watch case measures 17mm in diameter not including the crown.
It fits a maximum wrist size of 6.5 inches or 16cms but this can easily be reduced by any competent jeweller should this be required.
The watch has just been fully overhauled, restored and serviced and is guaranteed to be a genuine Vertex in all respects.
